About Viva Phu Quoc

Viva Phu Quoc is an independent, English-language guide to what is on in Phu Quoc through the year. This page explains what it covers, where the information comes from, how we date it and how we correct it.

What this site covers

The site answers one planning question: what is Phu Quoc like in the month you are thinking of going? It covers the sea on each coast by month, public holidays and lunar festivals, night markets and evening life by area, the evening shows staged by the island's resort operators, and the dates when the island is full.

It is deliberately narrow. Theme-park guides, honeymoon itineraries and day-to-day island news are not what this site is for; where they matter for an evening or a date, we mention them as landmarks and point to the operator's own page.

What this site does not do

  • It does not sell tours, tickets, rooms or transfers, and it does not take bookings.
  • It does not accept payment from venues, shows or companies to be mentioned, and listings on these pages are not ordered by anything a business has paid for.
  • It does not rank restaurants, markets, shows or companies. When we describe several, we group them by area or by what a reader needs.
  • It does not answer on behalf of airlines, ferry companies, shows or hotels. Their own channels are the only place to change or confirm a booking.

Where the information comes from

We start from official and primary sources: government and provincial portals, the operators' own pages for show times and opening hours, airline travel guides, and Vietnam's national press, such as VnExpress, Tuoi Tre, Thanh Nien, VietnamPlus, Nhan Dan and Viet Nam News. Commercial blogs are used only to show that sources disagree, never as the only basis for a time, a price or a date.

Some facts cannot be confirmed from an official source, for example the dates of village whale-worship rites, or the start time of a show the operator does not publish online. In those cases we say so on the page and leave the number out rather than guess.

How dates are checked

Every section that gives a time, a date, a price or a rule ends with a source line naming where it came from and the day we checked it. Prices quoted from third parties, such as market seafood or a show ticket, carry the month of the source and are reference figures, not quotes. Lunar dates are converted with a Vietnamese lunar calendar, which we name.

Pages show the date they were last updated. Holiday schedules, show programmes and market sites change most often, so those sections are rechecked first. If you are reading a page more than a few months after its update date, check the source line before relying on a time.

Corrections

If something on a page is wrong or out of date, write to the editors using the form on the contact page. Tell us the page, the sentence, and where you saw the correct information, ideally an official page or a dated news report.

We check the claim against the source before changing anything. Small fixes, such as a changed opening time, are made in place and the page's update date changes. If a correction changes the advice a page gives, for example a market that has moved, we add a dated note in the relevant section saying what changed.

Who writes it

The site is written and maintained by the Viva Phu Quoc editors. We do not publish personal contact details; the contact form reaches the editors directly. Venues, organisers and companies named on these pages are independent of this site.

Common questions

Questions readers send

Can a venue pay to be featured?

No. Mentions are based on what a reader needs to know for a given month or evening, and nothing on the site is ordered by payment.

How do I report something that is out of date?

Use the form on the contact page with the page, the sentence and your source. We check it and update the page, with a note if the advice changes.

Why do some pages say sources differ?

Because they do. Where two credible sources disagree and we cannot settle it, we show both rather than pick one.
