What is the single most useful thing to check before choosing dates?
Whether your dates fall on a Vietnamese public holiday. Weather on Phu Quoc can be worked around by choosing the sheltered coast; a holiday that fills the airport and the hotels cannot.
The festivals and holidays page lists the 2026–2027 dates we could confirm.
Is there still a night market in Duong Dong?
Its future was unsettled at our last check. The lease on the Bach Dang site ended at the end of 2025 and a new site was being studied in April 2026. Other evening markets operate on Long Beach, at Sunset Town and at Grand World.
Does Viva Phu Quoc sell tickets for the shows it describes?
No. The site describes shows, markets and festivals and points to the organiser's own page. Tickets are sold by the operators and their agents.

Month by month
Which is the driest month on Phu Quoc?
January and February, with long-term averages under 30 mm of rain each. March is close behind.
Is it worth going in the rainy season?
It can be, if you stay on the south-east side around Bai Sao or Bai Khem, where the bays are sheltered from the southwest wind. Expect showers and do not count on boat trips.
Why do guides disagree about October and April?
They are transition months. Some sources count October as the first dry month and April as the last; the 2021 climate study puts the dry season from December to April. Check a forecast close to the date.

Festivals and holidays
When is Tet 2027?
Lunar New Year's Day is Saturday 6 February 2027. The official break had not been decided when we checked; the options proposed were 4 to 10 February or 5 to 14 February 2027.
When is the Dinh Cau festival in 2026?
On the 15th and 16th of the tenth lunar month, which is 23 and 24 November 2026 by the Vietnamese lunar calendar.
Can tourists attend the temple festivals?
Yes. Dress modestly, keep out of the way of the procession and offerings, and ask before photographing people at prayer.
Is there a fixed date for the whale-worship festival on Phu Quoc?
Not one we could confirm. Each fishing community sets its own dates; ask locally a week or two ahead.

Night markets
Is the Phu Quoc night market in Duong Dong open?
Its lease ended on 31 December 2025 and a new site was being studied in April 2026. We have no later confirmation, so check locally before planning around it.
Which night market is closest to Long Beach?
The market on the Sonasea walking street along Tran Hung Dao road, reported in January 2026 as open from 16:00 to 23:00.
Are the pearls at the night markets real?
Some are, some are not. Unusually cheap pearls may be imitations; buy from a shop that gives a written description and a receipt.

Evening shows
What time does Kiss of the Sea start?
The operator's pages we could read did not publish a start time on 12 October 2026, and resellers disagree. Confirm on the day with the operator or the seller.
What time are the Grand World evening shows?
The operator lists Tinh Hoa Viet Nam at 20:15–21:00, a lantern release at 21:00, Colours of Venice at 21:30–22:00 and a laser show at 22:45–22:50. The schedule can change with the weather.
Can I see both Sunset Town and Grand World in one evening?
Not comfortably. They are at opposite ends of the island and the main shows overlap in time.

West coast or east coast
Which beach is calm in July?
The south-east bays: Bai Khem and Bai Sao. Long Beach, Bai Dai and Ganh Dau usually have big waves in the southwest monsoon.
Where can I watch the sunset on Phu Quoc?
Anywhere on the west coast: Long Beach, the rocks at Dinh Cau in Duong Dong, Ong Lang, Bai Dai and Ganh Dau. The south-east beaches face the sunrise.
Is Bai Sao good in December?
Sources differ. Vietnam Airlines recommends it from November to April, while the east side can be breezier on strong northeast-wind days. It is usable; the west coast is usually calmer then.

Peak dates
When is Phu Quoc least crowded?
Outside the public-holiday breaks, in the rainy-season months, when average room prices are lowest. The trade-off is a rougher west coast.
How early should I book for Tet?
In 2026 some travel firms booked rooms nearly two months ahead and the tourism department said the island was practically full. Earlier is safer, and confirm directly with the hotel.
Do prices go up on holidays?
Yes for rooms, flights and seafood. Ask prices before ordering, and report problems to the Tourism Rapid Response Team.

Duong Dong
Where can I watch the sunset in Duong Dong?
The rocks around Dinh Cau at the river mouth, or anywhere on Long Beach just south of town. Both face west.
Is Duong Dong a good base for evenings?
Yes for a mix of town, market and sunset without a car. Less so if your evenings are at Grand World in the north.
When is the Dinh Cau festival?
On the 15th and 16th of the tenth lunar month: 23 and 24 November in 2026.

South and An Thoi
Is the south of Phu Quoc good in the rainy season?
Yes for the sea: Bai Khem and Bai Sao are sheltered from the southwest wind. Expect rain showers, and check boat trips day by day.
What time is the show at the Kiss Bridge?
The operator lists a 15-minute show in front of the bridge at 17:00 daily. Times for the later evening shows were not published on the pages we read.
Can I see the sunset from Bai Khem?
No, the bay faces east; it is a sunrise beach. For sunset in the south, go to Sunset Town on the west side.

North island
Is Bai Dai the same as Long Beach?
No. Bai Dai is in the north-west, from Cua Can to Ganh Dau. Long Beach (Bai Truong) runs south from Duong Dong. The English names cause the confusion.
What is there to do in the north at night?
The Grand World evening shows and night market, or sunset and an early dinner. Outside the resort district the north is quiet after dark.
Can I swim at Bai Dai in August?
It is often rough: Bai Dai takes the southwest monsoon. The south-east bays are calmer then.

About
Can a venue pay to be featured?
No. Mentions are based on what a reader needs to know for a given month or evening, and nothing on the site is ordered by payment.
How do I report something that is out of date?
Use the form on the contact page with the page, the sentence and your source. We check it and update the page, with a note if the advice changes.
Why do some pages say sources differ?
Because they do. Where two credible sources disagree and we cannot settle it, we show both rather than pick one.
